RTD extends evening A Line frequency, removes two morning trips Sept. 27

RTD’s final A Line timetable will remove a 5:45 a.m. eastbound trip and a 6:42 a.m. westbound trip while extending 15-minute evening service, effective Sunday, September 27, 2026. The change affects riders traveling between Denver Union Station and Denver Airport Station.

The eastbound removal matters to travelers heading toward the airport; the westbound removal affects trips toward Union Station. Passengers and airport workers with fixed morning arrival times may need a different train. RTD’s final service plan names the two trips but does not establish the next usable departure for every boarding station.

Where evening service changes

RTD says 15-minute A Line service will run from 6:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by 30-minute service. Under the existing timetable, RTD says 30-minute service begins with the 6:30 p.m. departure from Union Station and the 7:27 p.m. departure from Denver Airport Station. Because those existing changeovers are listed for different origin stations, the extension should not be read as an identical gain for every rider.

The new frequency window is also not a promise of a departure at 7:30 p.m. from each stop. Riders making a flight connection or meeting a shift start should check RTD’s upcoming schedules for their station and direction rather than infer a replacement time from the two removed trips.

RTD’s explanation and the limits of the evidence

RTD says shifting the frequent-service window better matches customer demand, makes departure patterns more consistent and aligns operations with contractual requirements. Those are the agency’s reasons for the decision. Its final notice does not quantify savings, additional evening riders or a change in punctuality.

RTD reports 152 responses to its service-change survey: 40% described a positive impact, 28% no impact and 32% a negative impact. These are responses to the agency’s change survey, not a representative measure of how A Line riders view the morning and evening tradeoff.

Fares are a separate consideration. RTD lists a $10 standard Airport Day Pass and an $88 standard monthly pass that includes airport travel. Those prices describe the cost of a trip or pass; the timetable decision does not establish a fare saving.

RTD announced the September 27 start date on September 9. Its final notice gives no end date for the revised timetable. For anyone who uses either removed morning trip, the immediate question is which departure in the upcoming schedule still meets their required arrival time.
